Or, you could do something funky with the 2nd serial port on the
dumb term itself. *grin*

plundering Humbug's memory? why, do a net search of course. ;)
if you buy what is quaintly termed a 'high speed serial card' you'll be
right. These have the nice feature of jumpable IRQs for each port, and
the FIFO buffers help dealing with when the OS is thinking about what to
do next.
Read the man page on 'setserial' as well.
Minerva had 4 ports at one point, all capable of at least 38400 (didn't
have a need to go higher). It does help if you use setserial to change
the baud rates as appropriate, ie:
com1 - 2400 (mouse - mousesystems seem to require 9600 for some reason)
com2 - 38400 (modem)
com3 - 9600 (dumb term)
com4 - 38400 (2nd modem.)
