Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is responsible for design, coding, unit testing,
and maintenance of components in the Firewall division. You will be
responsible for maintaining and supporting prior versions of the product
and bringing problems assigned to closure. This position is responsible
for knowing the competition and their strengths and weaknesses versus
Secure Firewall products.
Technical Skills
C, C++, OOD/OOP, network programming, UNIX kernel and application
programming, knowledge of internet protocols.
Required Skills
* Execute engineering responsibilities relating to the
Firewall design, plan, requirements, trends and technological
changes. Understanding the strategy, requirements, trends
competition. Contribution to establishing the overall design of
the various systems and components. Timely issue resolution and
contingency planning.
* Verify the technical accuracy of pubs, marketing materials, and
sales materials.
* Develop system definitions and develops and maintains detailed
designs for the assigned components.
* Analyse the firewall products structure and features and develops
designs which complement existing structure and features. Understand
firewall structure and features.
* Ensure code adheres to published coding/file structure standards.
Adherence to the specification and justifying all deviations.
* Produce unit test case plans, writes unit test cases and executes
the test cases against the assigned function. After successful
completion, responsible for integration into the build tree through
the release engineer.
* Conduct design reviews and code walk-throughs for all assigned
features. Responsible for all assigned features. Responsible for
resolving all issues. Scheduling, conducting all reviews and
resolving all issues within one week of the review.
* Work with team lead to produce an estimate and schedule of all
assigned work using MS Project. This includes all checkpoints and
identifying all dependencies. Work with the team lead to ensure
estimate is accordant with the overall system schedule. Accuracy of
the schedule and your ability to know in advance when a contingency
plan is needed. Working with the team lead to develop a proper
contingency plan.
* Responsible for fixing all defects found in system test and
assigned support fixes in a thorough and timely manner. Fixing
problems within the assigned timeframe.
* Able to understand customer requirements and translate the
requirement into a design. Understanding of our customer set and
product environment.
* Responsible for understanding the Secure Computing family
positioning to aid in the understanding of trade-off and
code-reuse. Appropriateness of design and coding decisions.
* Responsible and accountable for presenting precise, accurate
status on all assigned work items. Timeliness and accuracy of status
reports.
