[H-ADMIN] Humbug room bookings

Dear Stephen,

I’m writing to you as secretary of Humbug, Brisbane’s Unix users group, in
your position at the school to assist us with room bookings, as suggested
by Jennifer Croud.

UQ room bookings recently enacted a change to their rules to forbid
external groups from receiving free room bookings, even for groups like
ours that have been meeting at UQ for over twenty years with no problems.

At the moment Humbug is surviving under the grace of individual staff
members at the university, we would like to propose a more permanent,
formal solution. I would like to suggest that Humbug meet fortnightly,
Saturday night at the collaboration space, level two GPS. I’m hoping that
ITEE can give permission for that space without going through room bookings.

Humbug already has good interactions with UQCS, which has led to Humbug
helping out with Linux workshops at UQ and helping CompCon, and with UQ
student helpers at PyConAu and linux.conf.au. Sharing a space could only
improve these interactions.
