I am a little confused because I thought anyone could post to the
sysadmin list. Is the sysadmin list actually moderated? I've just
fired off an email to see.

I am happy to take ownership of the list if that will make your life better.

A little of both I think :-).
Life wasn't meant to be easy for mailing list administrators. I am a
moderator on a similar list and there are ways to make this more
bearable. You can configure the list to bundle up these notifications.
You can ask Mailman to drop particular email addresses (might even be
regex based, need to check). I also have a script that can be used to
detect large numbers of messages with the same subject and bulk reject
them.
Cheers,
Raymond
