I agree 100%.

The reason I didn't mention it is I see it as a orthogonal issue.
Putting all of /etc and other crap like under version control that is
essential.  And one day or other that will happen, even if I end up
doing it myself.  That is a plan of last resort though.  I am hoping
some other idiot will step up to the plate.  Whatever is done, it has to
be the same mechanism for this /etc and whatever else we do, otherwise I
will go insane.
