It is probably not a bad idea.  However, I would not let whatever Mark
decides to do get in your way.  If you want to record some items for the
budget and think Google does is an easy way do to that, then do it, and
then hand over/share the result with Mark.  If Mark wants to use it as
is, or import it into a private copy, or keep a manual ledger then that
is his decision.

The one thing to keep in mind is you don't want to remove control from
Mark.  In the end, it is Mark's responsibility to ensure the spreadsheet
looks nice and adds up - particularly the add up bit.  Spreadsheets in
have a notorious habit of not adding up because of mistakes in the
formula's.  One way to almost guarantee there will be mistakes in the
formula's is to let everybody have a hack on it.

So go ahead.  Set up a shared Google spreadsheet.  Post the link here.
I could probably use it to enter my own figures.  Mark can then use the
data on there as and how he sees fit.
