Hello Humbug(ers)!
Some of you may or may not remember me, but I've been a member of Humbug for
a long time now, I just don't tend to come to the meetups mostly due to
family/time/commitments. Nevertheless I wanted to share something I've
built lately that has somewhat become successful (in its own right) and
growing and I would love it if it turned into something awesome!
So here it is...
(for now) it is called Twtxt (based on an existing open source spec
by @bucket back in ~2016) and I launched the first public hosted Pod (as
we're calling them now) at https://twtxt.net/ noly ~2 weeks ago.
Since that time we've had 3-6 new users create accounts, 10 subFeeds (as we
call them) and to date over 800 Twts (posts, as we call them).
So far so good. Now yes the software that powers twtxt.net is very much
open source and licensed under the terms of the MIT License. It is written
in Go (which I fell in love with some ~5 years ago; you can find other
examples of self-hosted software I've been writing and building up to over
that time here:
https://gist.github.com/prologic/c165403fb6ac07c16dc9fd6eeb8efbd2 -- all
open source!)
My goals now are simple:
- Keep going (we have a Mobile/iOS engineer busily building an iOS app
whilst I work on the API)
- Get some funding (thinking about Kickstarter/Indiegogo) so we can pay for
further development.
If you're interested and want to help or just want to join the community
early please LMK and do so! You can read more about some of my
motivators are my blog at https://prologic.blog/
Keep safe everyone!
Kind regards
James
PS: If you were ever looking for a good RSS/News readers (think Google
Reader) twtxt.net also serves that "niche" too :)
