Many thanks for all for the details - very cool!

It's clear that I need to dump the EPROM, then. Does anyone have an 
EPROM programmer (or equivalent setup) that they could bring along to 
one of the meetings by any chance?
I'd be keen to have a shot at a bit of reverse engineering the 6809 
assembly, just when it comes to the electric circuits and components I'm 
no use.
