[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and ]

You really can't expect any help if you don't include the following:

1. Who you are dialing
2. Some log info from (probably) /var/log/ppp(something)

Number 1 is probably the ticket...

---- Original Message Follows ----

I have been trying to setup ppp on a friend's RH 7.2 machine using KPPP.
The modem dials out but soon (almost immediately) after connection the
pppd daemon dies. /var/log/messages gives the following:

"pppd 2.4.1 started by root. uid 0
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
hangup (SIGHUP)
Modem hangup
Connection terminated
Exit.
keith su(pam_unix)[1717]: session closed for user root."

The modem is a 33.6 k KTX modem.

KPPP reports the following:

"pppd daemon died unexpectedly. Exit status 16."

According to the pppd man page, exit status 16 is simply "The link was
terminated by the modem hanging up."
pppd has been suid to root. The modem is on ttyS0 which, according to
setserial, uses IRQ 4 so I assume the mouse is on ttyS1 with IRQ 3.
I can't find anything in the KPPP faq to help me here. Can Humbug?

Regards,

Paul Cornford
