<simplification type="massive,over">

FreeBSD is for people who like to run Enlightenment and all the
associated multimedia bells and whistles, and think that having 10%
better filesystem througput is a "killer app".

NetBSD is for people who like "real" unix, where everything is as
simple as possible, you can rebuild the whole system yourself
from source, and "platform is irrelvant, you will be ported".

OpenBSD is NetBSD reworked by someone who thinks the NetBSD philosophy
is not extreme enough.

I have both OpenBSD and NetBSD boxen. As for FreeBSD, if I want
Linux, I know where to find it ;->.

p.s. One more major difference: On Linux, the man pages are generally
worse than useless. On BSD, *especially* OpenBSD, the man pages are
absolutely smegging brilliant.

p.p.s. Having said all that, my main desktop systems are all Debian Linux.
       Servers, routers, et al. are BSD.
