The monitor would be a re-badged monitor of a different brand. Try to find
out what the monitor really is and use that as your monitor. It looks like
you are doing a GUI login which may be difficult with a poor X-Windows
setup. The monitor settings should not become a problem in the console so
try to change your run level to 3 rather than 5 (at least temporarily) in
/etc/inittab which will give you a console login and will allow you to run
Xconfigurator and reconfigure your X settings.
If you can not find the source of your monitor try some of the generic vga
or svga settings...one of them will surely work...as a last resort acquire a
monitor of known parentage. This is a minor irritation for Linux users that
you do need to know more about harware and whether your distro supports it
than the typical Windows install. It is also a minor irritation if you
change monitors or take your box to your friends place and try to use the
monitor there etc.
Good luck
