[H-GEN] Moved from ADSL to fibre, need help.

I got caught up in the enforced South Brisbane Telstra fibre "upgrade".
Long story. lol
The tl;dr version - anyone want to swap some sort of WiFi access point
for an almost new D-Link DSL-2642B? It works fine as an ADSL2+ modem /
4 port router / WiFi access point, it just wont work well as a stand
alone WiFi access point.
I knew fibre was coming, but my old DSL modem died before my fibre
arrived. So I had to go buy a new one, and I figured it was not gonna
be needed for long, so I got the cheapest one. As a bonus, the
cheapest had a built in WiFi AP. I figured I could use the WiFi after
the switch to fibre. Seems I was wrong. The DSL-2642B can't seem to be
convinced to set it's default gateway to anything that's not the DSL
port, like the Ethernet port I wanted to use for instance. I can ssh
into the device, or use the web interface, to add static routes, but
it's route command does not understand "default". Does not seem to be
anything on the web that talks about this sort of thing.
The best I could come up with was to set 250 odd routes for IPs like
1.0.0.0, 2.0.0.0, 3.0.0.0, etc. It was working in tests, but I don't
know the limits, and did not feel like doing that much work.
Anyone got any ideas? Or want to do the above mentioned swap?
