[H-GEN] Linux distributions

Hi all,

without wanting to start a flame war, I'm wanting to switch Linux
distributions and would be interested to know what others are using.
Arch Linux looks interesting, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

The main potential problem is that this computer is a newish laptop, and
so any distribution would need to support these bits of hardware:
* Broadcom Corporation BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 01)
* AMD Radeon HD 6630M (1GB VRAM, 128-bit GPU, switchable)/Intel HD Graphics
Under Ubuntu (which is what I'm currently using -- mainly because I like
Debian, but also like having up-to-date versions of Firefox and
Thunderbird...) these both need nonfree drivers, which are install
automagically by Ubuntu.

My main reason for wanting to move away from Ubuntu is that I don't
particularly like the Unity interface, and all the other window managers
I've tried on Ubuntu seem to be broken in some way or another. E.g.:
* gnome-classic: missing the battery meter, somewhat inconvenient on a
laptop -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-power/+bug/997758
* enlightenment: until a recent software update, it didn't have the full
Applications menu that Gnome, XFCE & Unity give you. Now it does, but
crashes every time you access the 'Accessories' sub-menu ...
* xfce: worked until I did a software update today, but is now lacking
titlebars for all windows(?).

Suggestions?

Thanks,
gavin,
