What's a typical battery life on one of these android phones?

I've been experimenting with my brothers old phone, but I guess it's
coz it is old that I'm getting lousy results.  Battery life on it is
more like hours than days when doing nothing, and minutes when doing
something draining.

How long does one typically last if you have the gall to actually use it
for stuff?
