[H-GEN] need to create easy restore back up of Linux & vista partitions

My elderly father is running a dual boot Ubuntu/vista setup and is frequently trying programs and breaking things. His standard way of 'fixing' it is to re-install both OSes. 

When he does this he lets Ubuntu automatically create partitions leaving multiple broken Ubuntu installs that I have to clean up (usually when I'm flat out) as well as having to install all his windows drivers.

I need to create an easy way for him to restore backed Linux & vista partitions.

partimage looks like it provides a way to save reference installs to the USB drive I bought for him but the vital part is an automated way to restore, ideally boot from CD and confirm you want to restore.

any pointers?
