[H-GEN] how to trace cause of crash/reboot

My server has been randomly rebooting this last week or 2. I'm
trying to track down the cause.

Can't see anything to my inexperienced eyes in the syslog
immediately before the boot up sequence messages. The times are
sufficiently random that I don't think it's a cron job.

I have recently installed backuppc, and set up some clients to
backup over ssh/rsync. None of them ever backed up successfully
because the server rebooted before they had a chance to.

While the backuppc daemon was running, the occurrence of reboots was
definitely more. But that being said, I'm pretty sure it has
rebooted even if I stop the backuppc service, although less often.

Any tips of how to narrow down the cause? Any tracing type programs
you suggest might help pin it down next time it happens?

Was thinking could be hardware, so try memtest?

Other suggestions?
