Okay, the motherboard is an ASUS P4P800 The beeps are eight short beeps, but the first two are quicker than the last six. I've downloaded a list of beep codes from bioscentral, which suggests "the system video adapter is missing or defective" So, I suppose I'll try to remove and re-seat the video card. nick
