I don't want to politicize this discussion, but I've long been of the  
opinion that FOSS has major implications for education, manufacturing, and  
defence in Australia. I wrote to the then Defence Minister about this some  
time back, just prior to his ousting; the reply that came from his  
successor was a whitewash - I'll post it if anyone's interested.

Some of you will prefer to avoid this aspect of the topic; but for those
