[H-GEN] Thanks and spreading the word

Just a note to thank Humbug members, especially Greg and Russell, for getting me going with Ubuntu 11. I'm loving it.


Thinking back on all the naysayers I came across who warned me off Linux, I realize there's a lot of unjustified skepticism out there.... something I'd like to help turn around. To that end, I'm going to do a little presentation with my new laptop and software at our next Zeitgeist Movement meeting (Qld chapter). The Zeitgeist Movement is a worldwide (550K members) sustainability advocacy movement that sprung out of Peter Josephs' online blockbuster documentary series "Zeitgeist Addendum" and "Zeitgeist Moving Forward", both available on YouTube and downloadable online at www.zeitgeistmovie.com... well worth a watch, and much in line with the shareware thinking of Humbug members, I think.

I would love if one of you - Matthew, Greg, Russell, any admin or experienced member - would join me to augment the presentation, giving some further background on the history of shareware development and Linux, what's available now, including support. The purpose of the presentation is to debunk the myth that Linux is difficult to use and also to promote it in general... and that when you start using it, it leads to other shareware and participation in a collaborative community.

The meeting is on August 13th at the Brisbane Square Library Community Room.
