[H-GEN] Email is broken... Really? How?

 I recall a discussion 1+ years ago at HUMBUG in which it was said by 
 somebody that "the Email system is basically broken". So far the only 
 problem I see besides overcomplicated mail systems is the problem of 
 trust -- to allow without fear. However I suspect that there are other 
 reasons people say that SMTP is broken; what are they?
