Its a matter of opinion of course, but in terms of lines of code the GNU
stuff loaded on a typical Linux system is bigger than the kernel by a
large margin. But then the lines of code that is neither GNU not the
kernel is bigger again, so maybe naming it who wrote the code isn't such
a wonderful idea.
David's original comment was he could not take RS seriously he keeps
trying to "crap down peoples throats". It is absolutely true that RS
does repeatedly try to push crap down peoples throats - just ask Sun or
Microsoft. And yes, I agree that the GNU+Linux thing is part of that
crap. However, saying we should not take RS seriously because he does
that is like saying we should not take diamond seriously because it is
hard. It is precisely RS's dogged persistence and refusal to compromise
that has made him one of open sources greatest icons.
