While I agree with your principal in openness, I feel bogging down
general with LCA discussion is not a good idea as not everybody
subscribed would be interested in the 'noise' that will be generated.

Agreed. See above.

Confidentiality is important in some aspects, but that's not the reason
I believe in separating discussion to a separate list. It's mainly due
to what I said above.

My proposal is we have a separate list for the noise, have periodic
progress updates to general and also send help requests to general where
we think others could help.
Remember, the reason for having a committee is to delegate organizing
responsibility to interested parties. We did have a call for
nominations, made public on this list, and confirmed the team list on
the LCA wiki at the previous HUMBUG meeting. How much more open can we be?
