Thank Russell,
My own feeling is that a list would help the team a lot. There are issues
like budgets and dinner quotes that we do want to keep separate from the general
list. Having a list would help us to just send it to the interested parties rather than
anyone in HUMBUG without trying to email specific people. This was something that was most
annoying when our lists went down. There were people left out of the loop when that happened.
We have an exec list and special interest lists which we use all the time. The exec list helps
us make communicate with other members of the exec. This is crucial. Having the extra list
would still allow us to post to general if we wanted to. There is nothing stopping that from
occurring.
I view that this list is would just be another subject specific list.
Matt

Hi all. A discussion has sprung up about whether we need a new mailing
list for the LCA bid.
My personal view is we should just use Humbug's general list for this.
The reason is fairly straight forward: using general ensures the entire
club knows what we are doing, where we are at, and generally is kept in
the loop. My view might be different if general was a busy list, but it
isn't. Right now it can use all the traffic it can get, and I am a firm
believer in "traffic generates more traffic".
I imagine there are two counter arguments. The first is the rest of the
club may not be interested in the noise we generate, and may even find
it irritating. If you are part of the "rest of the club" it would be
helpful if you joined in and stated your feelings on the matter one way
of the other.
The second is one of confidentiality. As you probably all know by now I
am a huge fan of doing things in an open and transparent way, so even if
there was an special list I'd rather it was open too. Nonetheless there
will be things that must be kept confidential - such as Wellington's bid
document. But there are other ways of dealing with that when the need
arises, as Wellington's bid document demonstrates.
As I said, if you have opinions on the matter please join in - but do so
fairly quickly. I gather the issue is fairly urgent.
