Hey All,

A little while ago, linux.conf.au 2008 officially closed. As those who
attended will agree, the Melbourne team has done an excellent job in
running this years conference and I would like to congratulate them.

As of course is the tradition in the closing ceremony, the location of
next years conference is announced. Some of you may know already that
Brisbane and Hobart had both placed bids to run LCA 2009. From what I
could see, both cities had strong bids and both were more than capable of
organizing and running the conference. Linux Australia has decided to give
the conference to Hobart next year.

This will be Hobart's first time running an LCA and I would like to
congratulate them on winning the bid. From the looks of it, it should be a
great location and I will be looking forward (and I hope others) to
attending next year.

Where does this leave Brisbane for hosting LCA? Firstly, while I expect
there may be a little dissapointment, it's not the end of the road. I for
one am still interested in running an LCA, and I expect there are others
in HUMBUG who feel the same.

Feeling that, an idea would be to hold a talk at one HUMBUG meeting in the
next few weeks to discuss whether or not we should proceed on a 2010 bid.
I for one would be a little disapponted if we didn't have another go and
am positive that we can put forward a strong case to Linux Australia for
hosting LCA in Brisbane after Hobart.

What do others think/feel about this?

Mark Ellem.

HUMBUG Librarian.
