This is a summary of the talk I gave on 9/Aug/08 on Humbug's LCA 2010
bid.
The call for bids for LCA 2010 was posted to the linux.org.au mailing
list on 1 August. The initial submission is due on 29 August, so its
time to get moving. Fortunately there is not much to do as our bid will
be very similar to last years.
Check list
----------
Artwork:
We have some good stuff from last year, which we can use. However after
the meeting Rose Lebanti-Niblock produced some wonderful little logos
which I hope she will post to the wiki soon (hint, hint).
Bid Document:
Same as last time, but I will try to include more pizazz from Brisbane
Marketing.
Budget:
I will do this after the next Humbug meeting. It will look much the
same as last time. I have sent out emails to Queensland members of the
Open Source Industry Australia, hoping they will give us expressions of
support. You can find the letter and who it was sent to here:
http://www.stuart.id.au/lcawiki/Budget No responses so far. I will try
to contact these people personally, BUT if any of you knows someone in
any of these companies you help would be appreciated.
Penguin Dinner:
As per last bid. I am getting last years quotes updated. I am looking
for inspiration on how to entertain everyone. Paid entertainers? A
talk? A group/geek game? Ideas anyone?
Open Day:
Will be left open as per last time. One idea floated is asking schools
to contribute student projects - sort of like a science fair, but its a
computer fair instead.
Partners Program:
I am ignoring this for now, hoping some kind hearted girl will come to
my rescue.
Processional Networking:
As before. I am getting last years quotes updated.
Speakers Dinner:
This has to be sorted. We didn't put anything in the bid last time.
This time we will, but I have not got a clue as to what to do. It is an
to be an upmarket jolly held for the benefit of the conference
organisers and speakers, at LCA's expense.
Team:
Now is the time to step up and say you are willing to wasted a few weeks
of your life organising an LCA. Put your name on the nomination form on
the wiki: http://www.stuart.id.au/lcawiki/Team
Venue:
QUT, as before. This time they have thrown in Saturday as well, yea!
They have also said we can hold in the first 3 weeks of July, if we
wish.
To do
-----
Before next Humbug meeting (23/Aug):
1. Everybody to nominate themselves on the Team page.
2. Jobs for me:
a. Contact OSIA members I sent letters to.
b. Speakers Dinner - put together some ideas and quotes.
c. Ensure I get responses for quote refreshes.
Next Humbug Meeting:
1. Elect Team (so bid can go ahead).
2. Decide when we will hold the thing (Jan or Jul).
3. Canvas ideas for Penguin & Speakers Dinner & general pizazz.
Prior to 29 August:
1. I will write up bid and post to here for review.
2. I will prepare budget. It probably will be identical to lastyears,
so no review.
In the mean time, post your idea either here or on the wiki. Don't be
shy!
