Since this matter might well be before a court, I wonder if you (or anyone else for that matter) can confirm that the discussion isn't in contempt of court? Better to be on the safe side.
I have no idea. I'm guessing that if I am, then I might just be able to pass the blame back onto the academic who posted it around the department in the first place. :-)
Secondly, the letter didn't include much in the way of details, and didn't seem to imply that the case is before a court - yet. It's just providing enough info to determine who would be a friendly expert witness. That's all that I passed on, thinking someone might be interested, and trying to be helpful to Dr Carrington.
I'd expect that any possibility that contempt of court could occur would be due to the subsequent questions of ethics, who can do what, etc, that were all raised in later emails. I didn't anticipate them, and would hope that I couldn't be blamed for them.
If I *could* end up in trouble, then I'd better not come back to Australia for a while. That's not really a problem, as I can't afford it anyway.
Paul
Hi Paul,
I didn't mean you, and I just I hope I didn't mean me. I'm fairly confident there was nothing wrong with the source email. Please come to Australia whenever you feel the urge.

Well, actually, the letter said the matter is going to trial in Brisbane in July. I don't know whether that makes it sub judicae at the moment or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if humbug is sufficiently public to cross a line.
Have we got any lawyers?
regards..... andrew.
