I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I think it's not a bad  
idea. It might be better to post to H-CHAT or maybe H-GENERAL, though.

If I'm the only one to think so, though, it may be better not to.

I just had a quick check of O'Reilly's User Group & Professional  
Association Program website -- http://ug.oreilly.com/. This is what  
they say:

> We invite group leaders to register for the O'Reilly User Group &  
> Professional Association Program. Please note: To avoid duplicate  
> registrations, we require that group leaders, not members, register.

So no, for better or worse only user groups can join, not individual  
members. They of course have other newsletters you can subscribe to,  
I have no idea what they're like though.
