Gaming Bob, who originated this story, has retracted his analysis of the DRM as 
being a rootkit.  Ars Technica have also refuted it

It does seem correct that the demo comes with the security protection too. 
Apparently this is normal; to make it harder for bad people to analyse the 
differences between the executables in order to remove the copy protection 
altogether.
