[H-GEN] irc servers

Hi All,
		a quick (hopefully) question about irc servers. Since the demise of  
the uq irc servers, I've been on a few others, but reliability  
doesn't seem that great, so for the few people I talk to, I was  
thinking of just setting up my own irc server. Not having done this  
before I am wondering what peoples opinions are on what I should use,  
or  even if its worthwhile, and I should just stick to some other  IM  
like skype,

Other details that are important is that my server currently runs  
debian on a ultra sparc II, so I'd be needing a port for that. I  
googled briefly for irc servers, and unrealIRC seem the way to go,  
but I don't think I can compile it for the sparc,
