[H-GEN] Small sound problem with fedora core 5

Greetings

I have a small problem that I have googled with little success, I
installed skype on FC5 and cannot get the microphone to work, I have
tried 2 different sound cards, and a generic USB sound device. With the
sound card, I have tried both the alsa and oss settings for skype both
without success. Any ideas or suggestions welcome
