[H-GEN] md5sum generation

I am trying to bulk upload over 100 names to our newly installed Web
Calendar and I need to generate md5sum'ed passwords.  Luckily in this case,
all of the passwords are known but have to be converted before insertion
into the database.

I know I cannot generate a checksum by doing -

md5sum password

but I can generate at checksum on a file containing the single password. 
Doing it this way would be tedious and would lead to errors.

We would probably prepare the sql file using a spreadsheet with the data
dumped from another database including the plan language password which
then needs to be encrypted.  Columns with the sql database commands would
be inserted and then the whole lot dumped as text to be executed.

Pointers would be greatly appreciated.
