Telstra will be supplying an Iridium phone Satellite phone, basically the
Iridium system supports phone and data, but the data speed is 2.4kbit/sec
connection, or a 10kbit/sec connection with compression [1]. Some details

The concern would be the quality of the connection to the exchange, and the
distance and number of joins in the cable. As that will determine the
quality of the line, the amount of attenuation in the line, which will
effect the overall speed attainable from the ADSL modem [2].
