You can't judge the value of a talk by the number of
people who would not be interested in it. No talk
can appeal to everyone. Clinton and I attended a
talk at LCA that had maybe 8 people attend it - out
of 500 odd. Both of us would of been really pissed
off if that had not been given because everybody
else has lousy taste in talks. I think I am safe
in speaking for both of us enjoyed that particular
talk immensely.
Along the same lines perhaps there are not many
people who would be interested in hearing the creator
of the Debian specific ifupdown package talk about
the cool things you can do with it. But nonetheless
I would really hate to miss out just because most
Humbug'ers run something else.
If there is a danger a talk will bore people who aren't
interested then move them to a different room, or
reserve a time slot, or something. It is not like it
is an impossible problem to solve. If few people
normally turn up in the afternoon, then that is perhaps
a good time to have them for that very reason - only
the people who are interested will turn up.
