Hello everyone.

For some reason (possibly notebooks), SUSE/OpenSUSE etc. throttle the
processor performance by default.

This can be remedied by editing the power profile

Yast, System, Power Management, Edit Schemes, Performance, Edit, disable
Allow Throttling and check Frequency Scaling is set for Maximum Performance,
next, next, OK,and Finish.

and optionally

disabling the powersave daemon

Yast, System, System Services (Runlevel), service powersaved, disable,
Finish, and quit Yast.

This will restore performance and make SUSE more competitive to the other
Distro's.

Currently there are several Computer magazines with OpenSUSE CD's/DVD
featured. Of particular interest is Linux Magazine which has an OpenSUSE
10.1 DVD which functions as an install DVD as well as a Live DVD booting
either KDE or GNOME.

Regards,

Simon Ellis.
