[H-GEN] Automated handling of phone SMS messaging

Hi All,

I'm wanting to drive sending and receiving SMS's via a serial data 
connection and mobile phone from a Linux machine. Heard it's possible, 
and plenty of SMS projects on sourceforge.net but there is so much 
variation, I'm really looking for vetted recommendations of software + 
phones that work.

I've tried unsuccesfully with a Nokia 9210 + serial data cable, and a 
few sourceforge.net projects  I think I've got a phone that's too smart.
My preference is for a Java implementation as that integrates with other 
Java development, but at this time will settle for anything that works.

Any recommendations or experiences would be most appreciated.
