Have you installed *any* updates recently, including kernel updates, or 
security updates to libraries ? 

I ask because it's possible that a library that python uses may have 
been updated by some other security patch and is now causing python to 
bus error. 

I had a similar problem last week with a php update causing gallery2 to 
segfault. (admittedly, that was easier to track down since I knew I'd 
installed the php update and gallery2 is written in php)
