Hi,

Could anyone recommend the most suitable way to handle file access control

for multiple users accessing the same folder on a debian testing install.

Which includes a 2.6.12 kernel (required for the sata_piix driver) and samba
3.0.20b-Debian.

E.g. How do I give rights to a folder that requires this setup:

grandfather has access to all records.

Fathers have access to their own records, access to a communal share,

and have full access to all sons accounts and communal file share

sons can only access their own files, and the communal sons' share

what is the best way to implement this in samba,

without tying each person to any particular machine?

I have read books, man pages & lots of newsgroup posts and can't seem to get
it happening.

Are ACLs mandatory in this setup or can I get away with native Linux
permissions and somehow

using create masks and umask settings (which does not appear to be straight
forward)

Many thanks,

Robert Webb
