Most if not all DVD players sold in Australia these days are
'regionless'.  Some computer DVD drives are still region-locked:
I believe the Apple Superdrive would lock onto a region after
a certain number of DVDs had been played. This is becoming
less of an issue as time goes by.

So bring along your region 1 DVDs: at worst you'll have to visit
a large number of friends until you find a player that works ;-)
