I don't know that you can get XML directly, but the output of XML-TV  
should do what you want.

Looking at my MythTV installation, it uses a set of IDs for XML-TV to  
use.  In my case it's successfully getting data from Yahoo:

ABC:  C2.au.tv.yahoo.com
ABC2:  C3.au.tv.yahoo.com
7:  C7.au.tv.yahoo.com
9:  C9.au.tv.yahoo.com
10:  C10.au.tv.yahoo.com
SBS:  C28.au.tv.yahoo.com

Looking at the man page for XML-TV (man tv_grab_au) it says:
   Channels are identified by the RFC2838 form recommended by the XMLTV
   DTD, i think.  (ie: Seven, 7, C7.au.tv.yahoo.com)
