I've been watching this discussion with some interest and it
seems that are a couple of points that might be made at this
stage.

One is that, from where I'm standing, it seems that you're
probably trying to bite off a somewhat bigger mouthful than you
can chew here. In other words, rather than trying to jump
straight into your webserver with its google ads, you need to
get on top of some of the underlying technology first, or else
risk a great deal of frustration along the way. In particular,
a mailing list may not be the best approach when there are so
many questions -- because you're only going to get partial
answers from a variety of different sources.

That leads to my second point. Humbug meetings, such as the one
tomorrow, are a better bet for getting complex setup knowledge.
That way, people with the appropriate skills can see directly
where you're going wrong and can lead you gently in the right
direction. Later, once you have the basics, the mailing list
might become a useful resource for sorting out some of the fine
details.

So, if it's at all possible, bring along the machines and when
you get there, dragoon some of the Linux weenies into getting
you sorted out.

Cheers, Greg
