I've now had a fair bit of feedback and have decided how to
handle this.

I will bring the books along to the next[1] Humbug meeting and
will make them available to people who are present at 6:00 pm.

I'm not going to insist on this (in case there are some genuine
poor students who are keen to get hold of a book), but I'd like
people to donate a gold coin for each book they take -- all the
donations will go to Humbug.

So that people can give some advance thought to this, I've typed
up a list of all the books and posted it at

    http://www.gbch.net/gjb/books.html

The list groups the books in rough categories, and shows title,
first author, publisher, whether there are any CDs included, and
a page count. All the books are new and have never been read.

In order to avoid an unseemly free-for-all, I plan to manage the
distribution of the books by inviting people to claim titles of
interest. In the beginning, you should plan to go after books
that most appeal to you, as I will resist giving loads of books
to any single individual.

After the first 30 minutes (or so) of managed distribution, if
it seems appropriate, I'll open things up for multiple books.

Cheers, Greg

[1] At the present time, I expect this to take place at the
meeting on Saturday, 13 August. However, I may be out of
town that day, in which case it will be the following
meeting. I will send another notice to this list a day or
two before the meeting to confirm the date.
