replied.  In the end, I went with Mark's suggestion:

I got one from the helpful folk at Mountain Designs in Albert
Street for $24-95.  It's small enough to fit inside my briefcase
when I want to do that; but it has a handle and space to carry
the accessories when I just want to have the laptop.
