[H-GEN] lirc and /dev/input/eventX

Hey folks, I'm having a lot of `fun' setting up mythtv, my current
problem is lirc, the linux infrared control daemon.
I've got a hauppauge budget digital tuner card, and am using the 2.4
backport of the linuxtv drivers (which are the dvb drivers in linux
2.6). I can play digital tv just fine with tzap and mplayer. I'm
having trouble with the remote though.
By installing the keybdev module I can see the appropriate numbers
come up in an xterm whenever I press said buttons on the remote; so
the hardware is working and a driver somewhere is doing some
conversion from the input codes to X events for me. The events are
available from /dev/input/event0, but what I'm having trouble doing is
getting those events into lircd, which is how mythtv talks to remotes.
I've been mucking around with the different drivers that come with
lirc (hauppauge and hauppauge_dvb), the different modules that come
with lirc (lirc_i2c and lirc_dev) as well as the standard i2c modules,
without any real idea if I'm heading in the right direction or not.
There's lots of guff on the web talking about this, but very few
answers, stuff on the linuxtv and linux-dvb mailing list, the lirc
users mailing list, the mythtv users mailing list, and 2.6 linux
kernel mailing list and other places. I'll happily provide more
details, I just don't know what's relevant.
thanks for any help,
