Sendmail usually requires one to achieve what we want. Sendmail was the
MTA which originally invented the idea of a .forward. The situation in
which sendmail does not require a .forward to achieve our target is if
procmail is being used as the local delivery agent (LDA). It's all about
finding some way to get your MTA to use procmail to look at the rules.
I'd need to check on exim & qmail but I believe that exim would act in a
similar manner to sendmail in this regard.
