Unfortunately some spammers use email addresses that they actually
monitor so sending a challenge actually encourages them to send you more
spam (because they don't actually look at the replies). I've read about
people who use TMDA and have graphed their blocked spam growing
exponentially. Not to mention all the spammers who use faked email
addresses and you end up with two thousand people bitching at you for
sending them challenges when they never sent anything to you, or worse
yet, when two TMDA users happen upon each other and slam each other with
challenges that neither of them recognise because of a slight mail mangling.
