No problems, I think you've come to the right place...

| I have Red Hat 9 and a spare computer and want it set up so I can
access it
| through XDMCP (possibly with X-Win32) on my Windows XP computer. I
also want
| to run an apache server and share files, printers and internet with my
| pre-existing home Windows network.

Well, okay. Red Hat uses the Gnome Display Manager (GDM) for the
graphical login. You can get to the configuration utility (graphical):

	Under the Gnome Desktop...

Click Gnome Menu (by default, this is a red hat),
			System Settings -> Login Screen

	Under the KDE Desktop...

From a terminal window or Run dialogue within X...
		Type gdmconfig and press ENTER.

Flip to the XDMCP tab, and tick "Enable XDMCP". You may also enable
"Honour Indirect Requests" if you wish.

That should get XDMCP going, and you should be able to point your X
server to the linux box and get a login screen. As for X servers for
Windows, there's a few options...

	X-Win32 (commercial)
	WinaXe (commercial)
	MicroImages X Server (commercial)
	Cygwin XFree86 (opensource/freeware)

I use the Cygwin XFree86 server myself. http://cygwin.com/xfree/ for
more information. Once you've set it up, you can log in by typing

	X -query LINUX_BOX

Or you can edit their provided batch files in the usr/X11R6/bin
directory of your Cygwin installation.

As for Apache & Samba, have you thought of using Webmin? I've found it
to be a very useful utility for configuring Apache & Samba. Webmin is
available from http://www.webmin.com/.

Now, for the firewalling for your internet sharing. You might find the
Firewall HOWTO & IP-Masquerade HOWTO both an interesting read. Both
cover the topic of sharing an internet connection over a LAN.

http://public.ldp.planetmirror.com/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/index.html

The firewall setup can be easily done in Webmin too.

If you're after a Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing-like method of
sharing your internet, you'll probably want to configure your DHCP
daemon (one comes with Red Hat as standard). Basically, once you've got
it working with a statically configured machine, all you need to do is
set in the DHCP configuration up with the following client machine
settings (again, have a look at Webmin):

	Gateway:	Your Linux Box's IP
	Primary DNS:	Your ISP's DNS
	Secondary DNS:	Your ISP's DNS...

Hope this helps
