At the last meeting, within earshot of my hard drives, I carelessly uttered
the statement "Guess I should backup my Mega Distro server." To anyone in
the computer industry, the results should be obvious - one of my hard
drives comitted suicide in a fit of depression. That particular HD only
had one thing on it, most of the Linux distros. The BSD and other distros
are on another HD that is fine at the moment. The few Linux distros that
where not on the dead HD are obscure ones.
I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the drive is still
under warranty. The bad news is that Maxtor will take two months to
replace it.
I have original disks for SuSE, and an old copy of Trinux, but nothing
else. It may be a tight squeeze getting SuSE onto the remaining HD space
though.
I have two requests. Could those that provided the original Linux distros
to me, and those that have downloaded Linux distros from me keep their
copies and bring them to a HUMBUG meeting after I get a replacement HD?
The second request - could someone provide a loaner 60GB IDE HD for two
months? I know HDs are cheap, and getting cheaper all the time, but I am
currently unemployed, so I cannot afford to buy one right now.
As mentioned above, the various BSD's, Solaris, BeOS, Minix, FreeDOS, and
other non-Linux distros are still fine. The large amounts of documentation
are still fine. The LTSP thin client installation is still fine although
the original site mirror is gone (James still gets to see his demo of 3D to
an X-terminal). The other thin client installations depended on the now
missing distros, so they won't work. I shall be installing a bunch of game
servers to keep people distra^H^H^H^H^H^H entertained during the waiting
period.
