Are you kidding?  Cat is great.  I make sure I use cat every day just for
my health.  I have a box in Aus which is backed up to CDs (not my first
choice, see the archives for my first choice :)  Split -b does a great job
of splitting the dump files for burning to CD (for removal offsite).  Cat
is the tool of choice for reconstructing the dump files.  Then there was
the time I fixed a system only with echo & cat...
