[H-GEN] IP problem

I have a problem that seems to plague me just every so often and cause my 
net connection to have lots of trouble. If I then ping some machine on the 
other side of my modem  I get replies like the following

64 octets from 203.109.249.137: icmp_seq=18 ttl=251 time=3560.2 ms
wrong data byte #0 should be 0xb5 but was 0xb2b2 a8 86 3f 45 cc 4 0
         8 9 a b c d e f 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f 20 
21 22 23 24 25 26 27
         28 29 2a 2b 2c 2d 2e 2f

I am not sure what it wrong or what to do about it.

The machine is running Mandrake 7.2, 100Mb ethernet to my network, 56k 
permanent dialup to the net. THe above ping was done from the router 
machine. Normally I run IP MASQ.
