Hi all,
If you've read some of my previous questions, you'll know that I'm pretty
new to unix and don't know all that much yet. So here's another question
that is probably quite simple for most of you people...
I've got Red Hat 9, which includes PHP 4.2.2 and MySQL 3.23. I want to
upgrade these to the latest versions - PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0. I used to
use them on Windows but I recently bought a new computer (for Windows) so I
turned the old one into a Linux server.
I've got the RPM for MySQL but it won't install due to dependencies with
3.23. Is there someone who has done this already? If so, how do I get it to
work?
Regarding PHP, php.net only provides the source code, not RPMs and I'm not
familiar with compiling the source code. Can I simply copy the 'configure
command' from phpinfo() and use ./configure followed by all that other
stuff? Apart from that, what else do I need to do? Where do I put it and do
I need to do anything else?
Your assistance is appreciated.
Cheers, Richard
